Life gets heavy. There’s just a lot to carry sometimes, and the weight of it all can seem overwhelming.
I don’t know about you, but sometimes my mind will race from one burden to another.
I don’t believe that I’m alone in this. In fact, as I sit here and think about it, I know that I’m not.
I’ve heard you. I’ve heard from people first hand, overheard the conversations, seen the posts, noticed the furrowed brows.
We have a lot going on. Goodness gracious! The struggle is real.
So what do we do about it?
For those of us who have a personal relationship with Christ Jesus, I think we have a responsibility to help carry other people’s burdens.
Wait! What? How are we supposed to manage that with the weight of our own heavy load?
Well, Paul tells us in Galatians 6:2, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ” (NIV).
I’ve noticed that something interesting happens when I carry someone else’s burdens. Not only does their load get lighter, but so does mine.
I’m not certain, but maybe our’s gets lighter because we take the focus off ourselves in those moments. I mean, it’s almost as though we set our troubles down the moment we help carry someone else’s.
Or maybe it’s simply that we no longer feel so alone in our heaviness. We realize there are others with challenges too.
Maybe, too, it’s because it simply feels good to help others.
Regardless, it’s an effective and important part of our Christian walk.
One of the easiest ways we can do this is through intercessory prayer.
Certainly, if you know of creative ways to help someone in any given situation, do it. However, if all you’re able to do is pray, then do that!
I’ve noticed that God uncovers a special, deeper connection with the person I’m praying for that I may not have had the privilege of experiencing otherwise.
It’s a beautiful thing, really. Carrying someone else’s heavy load to Jesus can be a beautiful burden to bear.
