Seriously, it’s a thing. Going to the gym awakens not only muscles, but the endorphins stimulate your mind as well. There was a time I’d go at least 5 times a week to get that endorphin rush. Not so much anymore, though. Now that I’m older, I still go to the gym, but my body needs a little more, shall we say, recovery time.
In the Bible, Mark 12:30 states, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Emphasis mine.) I’d say that encompasses everything! I believe that when we truly love God, our entire being cannot help but exude the love we feel for Him.
Sometimes during a workout I pretend I’m building my strength to fight against the battles of evil. Goodness gracious! Don’t laugh. This helps me to push my stamina to peak performance. What happens, though, when we simply don’t have the physical strength for such things? I’ve found that a different level of strength arises. Weakness.
For all kinds of reason we may experience a lack of physical strength. However, even in the moments of weakness our love for God can be felt with full force. Likely, even more so. In 2 Corinthians 12:9 Jesus let Paul know that, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Paul then goes on to say, “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” That’s love at full force amid strength that has fallen flat. We have the ability to show our love for God by giving Him full credit for the power of His Holy Spirit within us to do great things despite our weaknesses.
Next time I don’t have the energy for the gym, I’m going for a walk instead. I’ll flaunt my love for God by taking in His creation around me, smiling and saying hi to passers-by, and taking my grandson with me so that I can hear him babble, too, about the wonders of God.
